As wedding venue owners, we have the pleasure of working with newly engaged couples from the start of their journey to the end. We have gathered lots of information from our brides on how to find a wedding dress for their Portland Oregon regional and Coastal Oregon wedding. We would love to share more tips directly from our brides point of view, so please comment and let us know where you got your wedding dress.

Hydrangea Ranch couples are so excited to take photos in front of our beautiful newly build wedding barn. They want lots of photos in our gardens and fields of blooming hydrangeas. Our couples love their wedding photos to feature the stunning mountain views in the background. And finally, they love that we are so close to pristine Oregon Coast beaches. The image backdrops our couples have access to here are truly breathtaking and our brides base their wedding dress style on how they feel it will look at Hydrangea Ranch. While we think every style of dress would be beautiful here, our brides often select their gown style based on how they feel it works with their wedding design vision at our wedding venue. This is why most couples will choose their wedding venue before they commit to anything else, including what they will wear on wedding day.

We have compiled helpful tips to consider before you try on a wedding dress. Once you have selected your wedding venue, it’s time to contact local wedding dress shops. Most experts recommend selecting your wedding dress 8 months before your wedding date in order to have plenty of time for shipping, fittings, and alterations. We sincerely hope that you will consider a locally owned wedding dress boutique. As you scroll past our helpful tips, you will see a list of great local wedding dress options. If we missed a Portland, Tillamook, Oregon Coast area wedding dress option, please let us know.

  • Develop your entire wedding budget before you start spending. Having a well thought out budget and sticking to it is a must.
  • Our brides have told us that they brought shoes similar to what they plan to wear the day of their wedding or the exact shoes they plan to wear. Whether your style is platforms, Converse or cowboy boots, you will want your wedding dress to pair perfectly with your shoes.
  • Our brides have shared that they recommend bringing several types of bras and your favorite formal undergarments with you. This is helpful as you try on different styles. You want to be wowed by a dress and not distracted by straps or feeling exposed.
  • Another tip our brides share with us is to always call ahead and make an appointment. Wedding dress shops often have “by appointment only” policies or they strongly recommend an appointment. Wedding dress shopping can be one of most wonderful experiences, you don’t want to be disappointed by arriving at a shop that is closed or too busy to assist a walk in appointment.
  • should you bring an entourage or just one or two of your closest friends? There is no right or wrong answer here, do what makes you happy. Feedback from our brides is to remember that its ok to be in the spotlight and make this moment all about you. So, avoid inviting anyone who may be negative, pushy with their opinions or not interested in being your cheerleader for this experience.
  • Finally, our brides top tip for your dress shopping is to find a dress you will feel comfortable wearing for hours. Ask yourself if this dress will be great for your ceremony walk, an hour of walking all around your venue for photos, reception dancing, dinner and the exit you have planned. You want to be thoroughly confident in this dress throughout the day.  If a dress is too heavy or the beading is or fabric irritates you, or you might be too hot or cold (depending on the weather), these are all reasons to say no to that dress.
As you scroll down you will see a list of locally owned Portland Oregon and Oregon Coast wedding dress shops and bridal boutiques. We would be thrilled to hear your tips and advice is you are a bride to be or a newlywed, please share your feedback and advice in the comments section. Please tag us in your wedding dress photos and let us know why you chose that dress. We hope you enjoy every moment of your engagement!
